A Secret Adventure Awaits You At This Little Cottage In South Africa
“Let’s go on an adventure!” – This phrase is commonly used by people who are in desperate need of some time off from their monotonous lives (which we all are!).
Whatever you are thinking of adventure, this place in Harrismith, South Africa is here to change your perspective on it. The little cottage there is an attraction for people from all around the world and staying there will cost you £84 ($108 USD). Not much for a three bedroom, right?
Now that we have discussed the location and the price of your stay, we think it’s time we reveal what makes it so special. The cottage we are talking about here is known as the Lion House. Now, the reason for it being called the Lion House is quite obvious and yes, it’s what you are thinking!
The Lion House is located on GG Conservation and is home to lions and the number is above 70 which also includes 3 lion kings. So, the courtyard view of the cottage is lions roaming in their area and chilling while you sip your coffee sitting on the chair in the patio which is screened for some very obvious reasons.
You will get to experience some very unusual but exciting things when you are there. For starters, you are welcomed by lions and that’s pretty extraordinary, if not exciting. But once you get there, excitement is sure to build up.

If there is even the slightest of doubt in your mind regarding the safety, we assure you that there is no compromise when it comes to the safety of the guests. The cottage is surrounded by an electric fence along with the same fencing on the inside and top of all camps. Suzanne Scott, the Lion House’s host and conservation director says, “this is a necessary precaution to take for the lions’ safety, as lions can kill each other through fences if they wanted to.”
Just in case, the adventure part has not convinced you to pack your bags, this part of the stay will definitely urge you to start planning a trip there. Apart from the lions, the guests get to witness the stunning sunrise and sunsets of Africa. The GG Conservation Wildlife Reserve is incredible and you can’t resist taking a few pictures of the beautiful creatures that include zebras, springbok, ostriches, wild antelope and many more.
The visitors are so close to the lions, it’s insane! They can observe every little thing those lions do as they are just one meter away when standing by the fence. It is surreal to watch those lions go by their day. Scott says, “the best part is being able to hear the nightly roars of 77 lions in surround sound, it is truly awe-inspiring to listen to.”
There is a lot to learn from nature, especially animals and their behavior. It is just enthralling and uplifting at the same time!
